As part of the renovation of the old ‘Colorado Nut Company’ building, two Artist’s Studios were created. To preserve the historic flavor of the 1950s building, existing Denver Steel columns and beams, original wood rafters and black roofing fiberboards were exposed and the concrete floors refinished, providing an industrial backdrop. With 15ft-high ceilings, specialty LED lighting and neutral ‘paperwhite’ walls,

the Artist Studio provides a blank canvas for anyone to occupy and make their own vibrant workspace.

A new wet core with full bathroom, laundry closet and kitchen separate the public spaces in the front from the private (bed)room in the rear. The walls of this central core never touch the ceiling and the lid is designed to hold any storage loads. The front spaces facing the street incorporate the existing loading dock with new full-glass overhead doors and a sunken street level ‘maker space’ for artists to create in.
