Renewal Village

ADAPTIVE REUSE

Renewal Village is the adaptive reuse of a former hotel into a facility for individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless emphasizes the principle of “Housing First, but not housing only.” This approach focuses on creating safe, affordable, and welcoming spaces that offer inclusive wraparound services on-site.

Interior choices reflect a seriousness of purpose, and programmatically, the transition from community space to privacy involves a thoughtful combination of reuse and livability.

The former bar and café have been converted into a dining area and coffee lounge for residents and staff. A previous fitness facility now operates as a community lounge, providing views and access to an outdoor patio. The old ballroom has been repurposed for support services, where clients can connect with case managers and specialists in mental and medical care, substance abuse treatment, skills development, and job placement. Additional new features include a high-capacity laundry room with free washers and dryers, a computer lab, a private exam room for visiting medical staff, and a community courtyard. Above, the facility comprises eight floors housing 215 units of permanent supportive and transitional housing.
